Marc Jacobs Shocking is a hot pink stunner. It isn’t super bright, it has a slight muted quality about it and fits the Sephora description of “muted hot pink” perfectly.
This was breathtaking. In the bottle it is a beautiful hot pink and sits in that perfect pink category without veering into a red pink. It’s like pink roses. Shocking is just beautiful.
On the nail I was gob-smacked. I was shocked (no pun intended). I have a crap-load of polish and as such I own a lot of pink polishes. There is something about Shocking that is so pretty and girly but mature and sophisticated at the same time. This is not a barbie, little girl type of pink. This is a grown-up pink with a creme finish and spectacular pigment and gloss. I swatched this without a base coat and no top coat and when I laid down the first coat of colour I said “wow, look at this!”. Shocking can be a one-coater if you want it to be, but I did two to be sure of colour opacity.
I had no issues with the application of Shocking or its removal. It was a dream to apply and a dream to remove. I found this colour to be a bit of a head turner even if it isn’t in your face. I did get the “I love your nail colour” and where I’d expect that to happen if I was wearing something really extraordinary, to get it for a pink really shows how Shocking is somewhat different. It is work appropriate because like a red, I think this is a neutral. It isn’t the wrong sort of pink if you know what I mean. We’re not screaming shimmery pink, Barbie type of stuff here. If you are looking at these polishes and you glance over and think “another pink, I’ll skip it and get one of the more unique colours”, don’t. Stop. Look at Shocking. Give it a little bit of love. Swatch it. I bet you’ll see what I see in this colour.
